Meet Our Founder:

Financial Empowerment Movement, Inc was founded in 2008 by Sharif J. Small, with over 10 years of experience in the financial service industry starting as a Financial Advisor for MassMutual Financial Group in 2002.

In 2005, he left Mass Mutual to start his own tax accounting and financial planning practice, S.J.S. Financial Firm to focus more on financial planning, literacy and advice. Also, Sharif has over 6 year of bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll experience performing contracting projects for Accountemps (A Robert Half Company) and Accountants International working with small businesses, non-profits organizations and corporations. Sharif has been published in The Biz-monthly and The Baltimore Business Journal on retirement, taxes, and accounting issues. Also, he is the Baltimore Financial Literacy Examiner publishing financial empowerment article for the online newspaper.

In addition, Sharif served as the Financial Planning Association of Maryland, Pro Bono & Financial Literacy Chair from 2010-2013.  In 2011, he partnered with the Mayor’s Office and City of Baltimore to help planned and hosts the inaugural Baltimore Financial Planning Day event which provided free financial literacy workshops and counseling sessions for Baltimore and Maryland residents. Sharif educational background includes an A.A. in Business Administration from Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and a B.S. in Accounting with a Concentration in Personal Financial Planning from Towson University.
